Colorbar Perfect Match Primer - Review
August 19, 2015
Featured in Elle magazine's monsoon picks, the Perfect Match primer is also one of Colorbar's all-time bestsellers. A while ago in India, makeup primers were a rarity. But now the scenario is changing and we have various brands launching them in the Indian market. Most of these brands are international but atleast we now have access to them. In the midst of all this, we have primer by an Indian brand. How does it fare? Let us find out...
Product Description
This satiny touch oil-free primer masks the fine lines and uneven texture, making skin marvellously soft and smooth.
Packaging
Comes in a tube with a twist-open cap. You need to squeeze out the required product for each use. It is so sleek and compact that I always end up packing this (and not my other primers) in my travel bag. So obviously, it is travel friendly.

How To Use
My Experience
The primer is in a gel form. It has no colour or fragrance. A little is enough to cover the face and neck; so one tube will last long.
This is an oil-free primer. So people with dry skin (like mine) definitely need to moisturize beforehand. I then take the primer in my fingers to warm it up and pat/dab it all over my face. You need to smoothen it over your face and not rub it in.
If you have dry skin, I would suggest taking only the required quantity (you will figure out how much you need, after a couple of uses). Because if you use more, the product will ball up which is not what we want.
It is a silicone-based primer. So you do get the silky smooth feel and finish that silicones are famous/notorious for. Some people may be allergic to silicones, so a patch test is definitely recommended.
It feels light and also smoothens skin, preparing it for makeup. It also increases the staying power of foundation and other makeup to a great extent. You need fewer touch-ups throughout the day. I use it under eye makeup too and it performs decently. I do not have a separate eye primer; so obviously cannot compare. It works fine for me though.
Pros
- Helps makeup last longer
- Creates a smooth skin surface/prepares skin for makeup
- Lightweight gel
- Spreads easily
- Sleek, compact and travel-friendly
- Fragrance free
- Affordable and effective
Cons
- None for me. However, if you are allergic to silicones, you may want to do a patch test or even skip this.
Overall Impression
The Colorbar Perfect Match primer ticks all the boxes for a good makeup primer - creates a smooth base for makeup, helps makeup last longer, easy to use, affordable and travel friendly. Hmm.... since everything about this primer is 'perfect', maybe a color-correcting primer next?! What say, Colorbar?
