Maybelline Color Show Intense Crayon | Review, Swatches, LOTD
October 24, 2017
While Bangalore is slowly going into winter mode, and I am getting ready to adopt another cutie-pie kitten, Maybelline went ahead and launched not one but two new collections here in India - the Color Jolt Matte Intense Lip Paint and the Color Show Intense Lip Crayon! While the Lip Paints comes in a tube and offer a soft matte finish, let's find out in this post what the crayons are like...
Product Description
Perfect lips no matter what your shade. High coverage pigment to cover dark, uneven lips. Contains SPF 17 and honey.

Shades
Maybelline has launched 10 intense shades in this range where every Indian skin-tone will surely find a suitable color. The shades are:
M 101 Fierce Fuchsia
M 215 Intense Red
M 216 Magnetic Maroon (Although they have mentioned 10 shades on the Maybelline website, only the other 9 shades are listed there. But this shade apparently does retail at stores!)
M 307 Flaming Orange
M 308 Deep Coral
M 309 Dark Chocolate
M 403 Vibrant Violet
M 404 Passionate Plum
M 405 Mystic Mauve
M 406 Bold Burgundy
I got the two darker shades, Bold Burgundy and Dark Chocolate.
On dusky skin-tone (like mine):
Bold Burgundy is a warm maroon shade with a brown undertone.
Dark Chocolate is a wearable, warm medium-brown chocolate color. I expected this to be darker as per its name; but it isn't and I am sort of disappointed.

My Experience
The Maybelline Color Show Intense Crayons are retractable crayons which means no sharpening. The crayon body exactly matches the color inside; so it is easy to locate in your makeup stash.
These crayons have a mild berry scent that is not bothersome. They have a satin/creme finish; so they do have a beautiful sheen which makes your lips look plump and fuller. But they are not matte as claimed.
You can blot your lips with a single-ply tissue though to make it matte - don't worry, the color intensity would be still almost the same! Anyway as time passes, it naturally becomes less creamy and loses its sheen.
These crayons are opaque and intensely-pigmented in one swipe. You could still build up the coverage with more layers if you wish. They feel moisturizing and are a boon for dry or pigmented lips. You can skip the scrub-and-lip-balm step as they themselves feel quite hydrating and are especially perfect for winter.
However after a few hours when the creaminess subsides, they do tend to feel dry and can cling to dry patches on your lips if any. At this point, I like to quickly dab some lip-balm. I would still rate them as a comfortable-to-wear formula!
They do transfer to cups and glasses; the transfer reduces as and when the creaminess subsides.
Without food or drinks, these crayons stay put for around 4 hours, gradually fading into an even-colored stain that again lasts for some more time. Depending on when and what you eat or drink, the color starts fading and thereby reduces the wear-time.
I have two of the darker shades in this range, 'Bold Burgundy' and 'Dark Chocolate'. They do look similar in the swatch pictures but are quite different in reality.
P.S. - The below picture is the best representation of the actual colors since the color-coding of the body exactly matches the actual shade inside.

The above-mentioned cons must be totally ignored because the Maybelline Color Show Intense Crayon is a wonderful lip-product. Comfortable to wear, with a decent staying power; they are intensely pigmented and the quality justifies the price (which is affordable anyway). Highly recommended!
