Cafe Gyaan - Oil Away Your Make Up!
August 02, 2012"The oil can is mightier than the sword" - said Everett Dirksen, the late American politician. It is so true. When it comes to make-up removal, I consider oil to be my 'bestest' friend.
Like most of you, I love make up. And, like most of you, I hate spending time to remove it, at the end of the day. I tried using wet wipes (J&J, Himalaya) but did not find it good enough. I felt that it took more time and also stretched the skin a bit. I also tried make-up removers but they need to be used with cotton. So, additional work and time! And, of course, if you need to buy separate removers for eyes or lips, then additional products too!!! Also, God knows, what has gone into their making...
That is when I stumbled upon oils!

What actually happened was that when Junior was a baby, I had hoarded some oils for his pre-bath massage routine. Since the weather here in Bangalore is cool for the most part of the year, it was not practical to leave him after his oil massage for a long time before his actual bath. So gradually, the frequency of that ritual began to reduce as he grew up. Consequence - I ended up with many, many bottles of oil lying around, unused!
In order to finish them all, I decided to use them for removing my make up. I have successfully used them all up recently and also bought a new Biotique one. I now realise that oil is the most effective manner of removing make up. So I am here to encourage you all to also try oiling away your make up!
What Kind of Oil
Oils are best to remove make up. The oil has to be light or medium-heavy at the most, to do its work properly. It should also be easy to spread and reach all parts of your face; and should not clog your pores as well. A single oil or a mix of oils, both should be fine.
How To Use Oil
To remove make up, first take some oil in your palms and spread it on your face. Now massage all parts of your face nicely. After this, you need to clean away the oil with facewash as no one likes an oily-feeling face. By the time you take your facewash out, the oil would have got enough time to get absorbed and dissolve every trace of make up, even waterproof make up, gently. As we all know, we tend to use a lot of waterproof make up these days, especially eye make up. If you are careful like me, you can also remove your waterline make up. Just take care so that the oil does not get inside your eyes. And of course, the massage you have just given your face will surely do it a lot of good.
You need to find the right kind of oil for your skin type. Oily skin types definitely need a very light oil. It will definitely not harm anyone if washed away properly. If dry-skinned beauties are wondering if this 2-step procedure is going to make their skin more dry, then worry not! I have dry skin too and follow these 2 steps. My face feels soft and definitely not dry even after cleaning away the oil with facewash.
To summarise, oils are very effective in removing all kinds of make up. They are natural, easy on the pocket and gentle on your skin, and give the added benefit of a massage to your skin.
Do try and let me know if it worked for you.
Thanks for reading and have a nice day!!! :)
