Cafe Mantra - 'The Devil wears Prada When God is not in Gucci'

"The fact that I can plant a seed and it becomes a flower, share a bit of knowledge and it becomes another's, smile at someone and receive a smile in return, are to me continual spiritual exercises" - Leo Buscaglia

Some years back, I had read an article by this name in a leading newspaper. I had also just seen the film, 'The Devil Wears Prada'; so naturally this too caught my eye.

So, what does the line actually mean? - 'The Devil wears Prada When God is not in Gucci'

From ages, materialism has been projected as the exact opposite of spiritualism. It is considered a near equivalent to Godlessness. It is almost as if people interested in materialistic things, cannot believe in God. So, is a person, possessing all the material luxuries in his life, any less spiritual than a poor beggar with absolutely nothing?

The theory is that interest in materialistic pursuits hinders your path to devotion and God. However, in the current times, it is not practically possible to escape materialism. This is the reality and the urban truth.

As human beings, we need to know that we can follow a materialistic lifestyle without any guilt, as long as our life's philosophy is based on spiritualism. God resides in our heart and mind, not in the designer clothes and house we choose.

Materialism and spiritualism are not mutually exclusive. Having one should not exclude the other. We need both in our lives. The extent of materialism in our lives may differ depending upon our needs and lifestyle. What we need to do is to strike the right balance between them in order to understand the full meaning of life. Just as a materialistically wealthy person cannot be completely happy if he/she does not have the grace of God, so also a completely spiritual person can never be fully happy if he does not have atleast some of the material things in his life.

There is no harm in acquiring all the riches of this world as long as you still believe in the virtues of goodness, kindness, peace, and love. Being humane is the ultimate spiritualism . You can be a materialist and also believe in spiritualism at the same time. Just have a rock-solid value system in place. Also, let not your materialistic possessions rule or dominate you or your lives. Enjoy them but also be ready to let go off them if and when required.

If we can imbibe the goodness of both, materialism and spiritualism, in our lives, then God will be in Gucci too. And with the God in Gucci, there is no scope for a Devil to make its way into our hearts.

So you can amass all the things that you want which are within your limits, but do remember to spread some good karma too, around you.

The Devil wears Prada only when God is not in Gucci.

Thanks for reading and have a nice life....... :)
