Iraya Jirakadi Lepa Depigmentation Recipe Review
May 26, 2016Bangalore has always had a pleasant climate in comparison to other Indian cities. But the summer heat this year has been so unbearable here that I was pretty sure it would melt me too. The tap water has been hot enough to boil an egg; and (as already mentioned in a previous post) I have often been tempted to slip a few ice cubes into my bath water! The few bouts of summer rain have brought some relief though! How is your part of the world doing?
Summer brings along the dreaded tan; and what can be better than a face pack that gives you fresh, bright skin during this scorching sunny season! Read on to know about exactly such a product, the Iraya Jirakadi Lepa...

How To Use Iraya Jirakadi Lepa
Please refer to the picture below. The company has enlisted all instructions in detail. Do ensure to follow the same.
I would still reiterate the key points:
- Do take care to avoid the eye area while applying
- Wash off with cold water
- Do not use soap for the next 6 hours
My Experience
Iraya Jirakadi Lepa is a thick, black-colored face pack with tiny bits of 'jeera' or cumin in it. As instructed, you have to mix the required amount of face pack with milk and form a thin paste. I sometimes use water, and it still works fine. Again as instructed, please remember to avoid the area around the eyes - I forgot this once and applied it around the eyes as well; it did sting a little bit but nothing worrisome. If leaving-out-the-eye-area bothers you, you can apply another face pack around the eyes. Also I use it on my entire face (except eye area) and not just on 'affected' areas as instructed.

I have been using this pack once a week mostly at night after a shower and when I am done with the outside world. You have to keep this pack on for an hour; so I open my laptop and then time just flies! Also no soap for the next few hours; so try to use this a day before your important party/occasion.
Iraya Jirakadi Lepa Depigmentation Recipe Review |
Now normally a face pack that has to be mixed with something else, tingles, and takes an hour, would never click with me - I would much rather go to my kitchen and whisk up a home-made version. Because the foremost reason for picking up a pack from the store is laziness and to get a ready-to-use solution.
However, the Iraya Jirakadi Lepa is such a wonderful product that it is worth all the effort.
When you wash it off, you get a clean and clear, fresh, bright face! Yes, you get that with other face packs too but while that is temporary and lasts a few hours, the effects of the Jirakadi Lepa are more lasting. I found my skin to be even better on the next day. It almost feels like I have taken a microdermabrasion treatment at home! With regular and continual usage, I am positive that it will reduce pigmentation.
Plus the jeera bits in the face pack help to give you a mini-scrubbing effect when you are washing it off. So unless your routine involves a serious scrub ritual, you can pretty much skip that step when you are using this.

Mr. B often says that an authentic Ayurvedic product must have its recipe based on an ancient Ayurvedic text. This depigmentation recipe from Iraya is from the Bhavprakash Nigantu.
Below is a swatch picture. It almost looks like chyawanprash, doesn't it?

Pros
- All-natural ingredients
- Recipe based on Ayurvedic text
- Face pack cum mini-scrub
- Gives a microdermabrasion effect at home
- Effects are more lasting
- Actually brightens and renews your skin
Cons
- Needs to be mixed with milk/water and left on face for an hour. But trust me folks, it is worth the effort!
Overall Impression
This is not your lazy-day face pack. But if you want actual and more lasting effects, then you must try the Iraya Jirakadi Lepa! It has all the goodness of nature intact! Consider this more of a potent treatment product rather than a quick pre-party fix. Just to make it perfect and give it full marks, I do wish for an improvised version without the mixing part... because this stuff works!!!
