Faces Ultime Pro MATTE Lip Crayon in Midnight Rose - Review|Swatch|Lotd
November 04, 2015
You did not think that we were done with lip crayons, now did you?!!! Good, because it seems we have one more new crayon-kiddo entering the beauty scene in India, from the Faces brand this time. Now Faces has launched these beauties in 2 finishes - Matte, and Starry Matte ('with a touch of glitter') as per the brand. I am reviewing the Matte version here.
I have used the Faces Ultime Pro Long wear Matte lipsticks in the past and find them to have the best matte formula along with the Lakme Absolute Crème range. With the same hope, I picked up this product too. Okay, time to find out now...

My Experience
The formula is creamy, soft and smooth. If I compare it to Lakme Matte Lip Tints ('Magenta Magic' and 'Raving Red'), these are definitely more soft. It has a pure matte finish and is true to its name.
By the way, it smells like a blueberry muffin. The smell obviously does not last which can be a good or bad thing depending upon whether or not you like blueberries!
The shade 'Midnight Rose' is a deep red that will flatter all skin tones equally well, including my dusky complexion. However, I was expecting more 'midnight' in this rose which isn't the case. It still is a pretty color to brighten your face.
This crayon is saturated with pigment; and one swipe is opaque enough to cover even pigmented lips. This glides smoothly and evenly on lips. You can add extra layers for added drama; it may feel uncomfortable but the comfort level is still much better than the other matte sticks available in the market right now.
You do not need a lip-liner as such because you can define your lips with this itself. And It transfers minimally, which is a good thing.
Stays on lips in full intensity for 3-4 hours which will be further reduced (mainly from the inner areas of lips) if you eat or drink something. Fades evenly and stays as a nice tint for some more hours. Does feel dry after a while; so you may have to dab on some lip-balm at that time.
As with all matte lip products, exfoliating and moisturising lips before application, is highly recommended! If you do not have dry lips and since the product is creamy, you can directly apply it as well sometimes. It does not cling to dry areas as much as other matte lip products.
Here is a picture of how it looks on me.

I have not yet used the provided sharpener; so will not be able to comment on the sharpener or on product wastage. I will update the post once I use the sharpener.
Here is a side-by-side swatch of the Faces 'Midnight Rose' and Lakme 'Raving Red' (full review here). The picture is a bit blurry but as you can see, Faces 'Midnight Rose' is a far deeper red than Lakme's 'Raving Red'. (P.S. - Both colors are more vibrant in person.)

- Limited shade selection
Overall Impression
Saturated with color, Faces Ultime Pro Matte Lip Crayon is definitely one of the creamier and softer matte lip crayons available for matte-lip lovers in the market right now. I do wish they come up with more deep and dark shades soon. Meanwhile, I suggest that you hit the nearest beauty store and check them out. Do let me know if you liked them too. Even if you didn't, let me know that too.
I hope you found this review meaningful and useful, because that is always my most important reason for and purpose of blogging.
